TweetDeck new version will be exclusive to verified users, Twitter says •

Twitter’s popular social media management tool TweetDeck new version is receiving significant changes. After recent accessibility issues experienced by users, the company has begun rolling out a new version of the web app, while also announcing a new verification requirement for future access.

In just 30 days, only verified users, including Twitter Blue subscribers, verified organizations, and those who have received verification from Twitter, will be able to use TweetDeck.

How will the current users be effected from the TweetDeck new version?

To ease the transition, Twitter has assured users that all saved searches and workflows from the old version will be seamlessly transferred to TweetDeck new version. Additionally, users migrating to the updated TweetDeck will have the option to import their existing columns, ensuring a smooth and familiar experience.

The revamped TweetDeck introduces several exciting features, including full composer functionality, support for Spaces (Twitter’s audio-based social feature), video docking, and polls. However, the Teams functionality will be temporarily unavailable during the initial release.

This move by Twitter essentially offers users a 30-day trial period to test the new TweetDeck before deciding whether to subscribe to Twitter Blue. The decision to restrict access to verified users comes in the wake of recent rate limits imposed by Twitter CEO Elon Musk to combat data scraping.

During the temporary downtime, users observed that TweetDeck is widely used by social media managers and brands. With the impending shift to a paid model, some users may seek alternative tools that offer a more robust set of features.

Twitter has been testing the TweetDeck new version for several years and is now ready to roll it out globally under the new management. In a TweetDeck Twitter community, a Twitter employee explained that the removal of legacy APIs, implemented to prevent data scraping, affected the functionality of the old web app.

In related news, Twitter’s support account recently announced that the TweetDeck “new” version will be exclusively available to Twitter Blue subscribers. This decision is aimed at addressing the issues that users have encountered with TweetDeck. However, it comes with a catch – starting in 30 days, only verified users with a Twitter Blue subscription will be able to access and use the advanced features of TweetDeck.

The updated version of TweetDeck has been in preview mode for nearly two years, and Twitter is now making it mandatory for all users to switch to the new version.

Twitter employees have clarified that the problems experienced with the old interface, such as spinning columns displaying a perpetual “Loading…” message, are not directly caused by the rate limits imposed by Twitter. Instead, they attribute the issues to the removal of legacy APIs that were necessary to prevent data scraping.

As Twitter continues to evolve its platform and enhance user experiences, the launch of the TweetDeck new version, combined with the verification requirement, aims to provide a more secure and controlled environment for users to manage their social media presence effectively.

Regardless, Twitter’s commitment to innovation is evident through the introduction of exciting features like full composer functionality, Spaces integration, video docking, and polls.

As the global rollout begins, social media managers and brands are presented with an opportunity to explore the capabilities of the TweetDeck new version, while those seeking a comprehensive social media solution may find themselves drawn to the allure of Twitter Blue, if they don’t find it too expensive.
