Mortal Kombat 1 Officially Revealed; Here Are All The Details

Mortal Kombat 1

Initially announced earlier this year during a financial earnings call, Warner Bros. Games officially unveiled “Mortal Kombat 1,” the next entry in the long-running fighting game. While the gameplay is something the developers are yet to share, they have given us a taste of what to expect from the reboot of this popular fighting game.

Test Your Might in Mortal Kombat 1

The game was revealed through a bombastic trailer in all of Mortal Kombat’s glory. However, we do warn that people who are not used to guts and blood might find the trailer repulsive.

Mortal Kombat 1 is a reimagining of the first game in the series, seemingly taking place after the ending of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. The game will feature an original backstory for some of the iconic fighters, including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Mileena, and more. On top of this, the game will also feature a single-player campaign, something NetherRealm Games’ developed fighting games are known for.

Mortal Kombat 1 will also feature a redesigned fighting mechanic, that includes Kameo Fighters. The Kameo Fighter system will allow players to choose a character from the unique roster of partner characters. These characters can then assist players mid-match.

It works similarly to the assist system introduced in tag-based fighting games like Dragonball FighterZ and Marvel vs Capcom. Though the developers have confirmed that the roster for Kameo Fighters is unique from the base roster, they have not confirmed if these characters are playable in-game separately.

Furthermore, staple fighting game features like rollback netcode and offline play have been confirmed. However, it is worth pointing out that there is no mention of cross-play between the confirmed platforms.

Mortal Kombat 1 Launch Date and Platforms

Along with the reveal, Warner Bros. Games also shared the release date and platforms for the upcoming title. Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

NetherRealm team is personally developing the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. QLOC has taken responsibility for the Steam and Epic Games Store versions.

Mortal Kombat 1 Pricing

The game will cost $69.99 for the standard edition, and $109.99 for the premium edition. The collector’s edition will cost $249.99. Pre-orders for the game will go live today, with the following options available:

  • Mortal Kombat 1 Standard Edition. available physically and digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, including Steam and Epic Games Store.
  • Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition, available physically and digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC and will include all Standard Edition content, along with the Kombat Pack, 1-week early access to the game, and 1,250 Dragon Krystals. Furthermore, Kombat Pack will include a Johnny Cage character skin with the likeness of Jean-Claude Van Damme at launch and one-week early access to six new fighters introduced through Kombat Pack.
  • Mortal Kombat 1 Kollector’s Edition, available at select retailers on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S only. It includes all the Premium Edition content, and early access, along with a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture, an inspired Liu Kang in-game character skin, three exclusive art prints, a steel case, and 2,700 Dragon Krystals.

Finally, every pre-order of the game gives players the well-known Mortal Kombat villain Tsang Sung as a playable character. So, are you excited to immerse yourself in the Mortal Kombat world and check out the new fatalities? Let us know in the comments below.
