Google-backed AI security and research company, Anthropic, has released Claude 2, the next iteration of its Claude large language model. For the first time, the company has also launched a public-facing platform to access the AI model.

What Is Claude 2?

You can think of the Claude 2 large language model as Anthropic’s answer to Google’s PaLM and OpenAI’s GPT large language models. Claude 2 itself is not an AI chatbot but an underlying AI model that powers the Claude AI chatbot.

This is equivalent to OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 language models that power the ChatGPT AI chatbot. The Claude AI chatbot is a public-facing chatbot that provides an interactive interface for users to interact with the underlying Claude 2 AI model.

Claude AI is one of the most advanced AI chatbots that have been launched by any company. If you haven’t used the chatbot or heard of it before, it’s probably because of Anthropic’s rather cautious approach to opening up the chatbot to the public.

Although the chatbot has been available to select users since at least the first quarter of 2023, it has only been recently made available for the first time to the public.

How to Sign Up for Claude AI

To use Claude AI, you have to sign up for a Claude AI account on the Claude website. Unfortunately, the public beta phase of Claude AI is only available for UK and US residents at the moment.
