How to Hide or View Sensitive and NSFW Content on Twitter

[ad_1]

Twitter is one of the busiest social networks around with millions of active users posting content every day.

Unfortunately, some Tweets are unpleasant, to say the least. So, the platform has taken steps to block sensitive content and give you the power to hide and view it.

What Does Twitter Consider Sensitive Content?

According to Twitter’s sensitive content policy, you’re not allowed to post anything graphic or adult in nature without setting a sensitive content warning.

There is certain content that is considered sensitive, but which you are still allowed to post on Twitter. This includes:

  • Graphic content, like violent crimes, fights, severe injuries, and bodily fluids.
  • Consensual adult nudity and sexual behavior.

Certain categories of sensitive content, however, are completely banned on Twitter. This includes gratuitous gore, violent sexual behavior, non-consensual nudity, and more.

None of the content mentioned above is allowed in a profile header image, Twitter list banner, or community cover. Sending these images to users unsolicited is also considered a policy violation. The user can report you, at which point Twitter will either remove the content or suspend your account.

To mark media as sensitive mobile, prepare to post an image or video. Select the three-dot icon and then the flag icon to open your content warning page. Finally, tick the Sensitive box and hit Done.

It’s almost exactly the same on a browser, except you click the Edit button instead of a three-dot icon at the start.

By adding a warning message, other users can avoid sensitive content or make a conscious decision to view it.

How to Hide Sensitive and NSFW Content on Twitter

Twitter automatically hides sensitive content, but if your app is showing them to you, there are a few ways to fix that.

Select your profile icon on the mobile app or the More button on your computer. Go to Settings & Support > Settings and privacy > Privacy and safety > Content you see.

If the button beside the Display media that may contain sensitive content setting is active, turn it off. That ensures such posts never pop up on your feed—as long as they’re properly set up with a warning.

The next option is to go into your Search settings and enable the Hide sensitive content button. It blocks these posts from appearing in your search results.

Another trick to limit unwanted interactions on Twitter involves your Mute and block settings in Privacy and safety.

You can mute specific words, phrases, usernames, and hashtags like #sensitivecontent and #NSFW from your timeline and notifications. You can specify a duration, too.

If you want to hide your own posts from viewers, go to Settings & Support > Settings and privacy > Privacy and safety > Your Tweets.

You’ll find the option to mark all media you Tweet as sensitive. Turn it on, and the app will automatically label your content.

How to View Sensitive Content on Twitter

When you come across a post hidden behind a warning message on Twitter, select Show to reveal its content.

If you want your feed and search results to always show sensitive content, go to Settings & Support > Settings and privacy > Privacy and safety > Content you see. Then make sure the Display media that may contain sensitive content setting is active. Keep in mind that you need to be over 18 and have your birth date on your profile.

If you often share media considered sensitive but fail to add warnings, Twitter itself can label your content as potentially sensitive.

While you can’t edit a Tweet on Twitter without a Blue account, you can remove the warning, make your content visible again, and be more careful in the future.

Just go to Your Tweets settings and deactivate the automatic marking of your media. Assuming your posts were unfairly flagged, and Twitter hasn’t permanently labeled your account, you should be able to turn this setting on and off as necessary.

Hide or View Sensitive Content to Personalize Your Twitter Further

You can choose to display all content on Twitter. On the other hand, you may end up with a screen full of warnings or horrible images.

For the best user experience, make the most of your Twitter settings to block or show sensitive content, whether you’re posting or just seeing it. It’s a simple change that can improve your feed and what you get from it. You want to enjoy, not dread, socializing on this platform.
